Accessibility at simontsui.net

When it comes to web design, I care about the smallest details. That is why I have "XHTML 1.0 Strict", "CSS", and this "Accessibility" page included in the footer at the bottom of the page: to show that my website is viewable across all major browsers. This website has been tested in Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14, Safari 3.1.1, Opera 9.2, IE5, IE6, and IE7.

XHTML stands for eXtensible Hypertext Markup Language, and is designed to replace HTML. My pages are written as XHTML 1.0 Strict, which is the cleanest and strictest version of HTML. I use correct semantic markup for my website, and cascading stylesheets (CSS) to design my website. My pages validate for both XHTML 1.0 Strict and error-less CSS.

I used to worry about viewers with widescreen monitors. I noticed how skinny those centered 700 and 750 pixel layouts looked on 1280x1024 and higher screen resolutions. Because I care more about my content than my personal website's look, I have designed a layout with "liquid" widths. No matter how large or small your resolution is, or how much you stretch the browser window, my website will conform to the size of the browser. The text becomes increasingly difficult to read when the window is squished below 440 pixels width-wise, but that is the viewer's choice.

This website is compatible with mobile devices/PDAs (Palm, Blackberry, etc.) It is now PDA-friendly with a "jump to" menu, so you can skip directly to the content or menu.

For users with limited mobility (e.g. a laptop with a touchpad or eraser mouse), I have created some accesskeys for my website. To use an accesskey, PC users hold the Alt key, then press the accesskey number (IE users need to hit enter to activate the accesskey). Mac users hold Ctrl and then press the accesskey number.
